Abstract

Public hockey analytics often study shot-based measures, but most actions are not shots. We implement an Expected Threat (xT) framework incorporating rink control via two-dimensional Gaussian distributions. Our model, xT rc, evaluates player impact by separating value into interpretable components such as passing and carrying, providing deeper and more granular insights than traditional metrics.
